Badcuts news

Elvis has left the BuildingWelcome folks.  It's been a while since a news update and this is for a good reason- we've been busy.  Link-optimise's redesign is complete and live!  So far so good and it looks particularly impressive.  The site has a good feel about it and the focus of it has changed.  It is now geared towards helping people SEO thier own site as much as offering packages to SEO a website.  We feel the balance is a good one, and we've had positive feedback so far.  All good.

Playgameshavefun.com, is also going from strength to strength.  The site is doing well on search engines, and is doing very well in the English speaking world, with the UK, USA, and Canada regularly reading the articles.  I love it.  We're hopefully launching our first video blog on the site soon.

The freelance writing is rolling forward to.  There is still plenty of work and I have landed a few roles lately which were good ones to land. Sadly, I could be facing my first non-payment dilema, and it will be interesting to see how that turns out. I will keep you posted as to the result.  As an
optimist, I feel that is the best course of action!

More news soon.

Words, words and more words, and an update!

The freelance writing world has been a little quiet of late, with my focus on Link-optimise and our other projects.  The former has just launched its resources page, and this is proving popular among visitors.  Those of you who accessed the blog via the homepage may have noticed a few changes to it, but we'll say no more about that.   I recently had 13 articles rejected by pure-content, and though one of them was ropey, I do feel the others were not 'off topic' as they stated, but were ok.  Anyway, the upshot of this was that I rewrote them.  We'll see what happens with that one.

Dr Teng paid me for my efforts, and asked me to write a poem about Star Wars, as his daughter is selling Star Wars trading cards on Ebay, and wanted a suitable rhyme to go with it.  Can't say I ever envisioned I would ever write about that.

Chris, from Digitpedia recently asked me to write six press releases and not to write about Blackberry Curve smartphones any more.  Both were good decisions on his part!

I have recently paid a company to conduct a link campaign for Teahon.co.uk.  This is in part a test for the company to see it is something we can offer to Link-optimise's clients, I'm also hoping that we can generate ad revenue through extra traffic.  We'll see.

The next step for both this blog and Link-optimise is to add ads.  This will be done via Google Adsenseand is currently in Phil's hands.  Sadly, we have been dogged by more IT problems as every night for about five hours, Phil's Internet crashes.  All very puzzling and annoying.  That being said we are making progress and are currently investigating what sites work with children, and should we have a character to introduce the site.  Personally, I'm against this as I prefer to think of the site more like a very interesting book, but I could be being old fashioned in my outlook.  Phil and I are agreed that the site's character should it have one, have an interesting character that is appealing to children, and not too annoying for parents.  If we can't achieve this then we will scrap the character idea altogether.

Phil and I, have had another website idea of having an online comic.  This site will be just like a comic with updates happening every week or month, and telling a story which is continued with each new installment.  Though we do not feel the ad revenue will come in quite as often as our other ideas, it does allow us a way of flexing our creative muscles.  Of all the projects we have started or are planning to start, this is the one that I would like to work on the most.

Talk soon.

Coping with freelance gloom…

It is not a good feeling when you are working hard but seeing little results.  This is just one of the many unforeseen experiences I have had to cope with over the last few months.  The hours of toil should yield there own reward but this is not always the case, and I have felt like it is all in vein.  At least sometimes.  The answer as always is just keep your head down and keep plugging away.  This is helped by the only other option available to me at the moment, and that is quit.  Not one I am comfortable with or planning to follow.

Link-optimise, is getting there, albeit slowly.  We have learned a lot about SEO this week, and how it all changed in 2006.  As a result we have initialised a link campaign which is progressing fairly quickly.  To attract more traffic we are implementing an SEO resources page, and we have discovered the best place to place an ad is Facebook, rather than Google.

Playgameshavefun.com, has had the first bit of content written for it, and I'm just going to keep writing it until we get something up and running.  I have a lot of faith and hope on this project, and Phil says he can see the advantages of it to.  With Christmas coming, it would be good to have it rocking and rolling by October.

The future is optimistic, but the present is a grind.

It’s nice to get a job done when you’re a freelance writer, come SEO guru!

Well I know I have spoke about this before, but it is nice to get a job under your belt.  Tonight, I have managed to get two jobs done, and for this freelance writer, that can only be a good thing.  The first was a quotation for link-optimise.  It has to be said that Phil's analysis of the site was first class, and providing facts and figures about keyword density and poor meta tags, made the quotation seem that much more professional.

The second job was my first ten articles for delegate2.  They have all been about stag parties, and hopefully these will be accepted.  I am hoping delegate2 will become a good provider of freelance writing work in the future, as they pay fairly well and so far the work has been fairly easy to turnaround.  Fingers crossed.

This freelance writer has had three good days both in and out of the freelance writing world.  That can only be a good freelance writing thing.

Ready to run and jump

Hey folks!   Well over the last few days a few things have happened that I feel are worth mentioning.  I finally managed to get in touch with John at Dreamtemplate, and he has paid for 30 more blogs for both his sites.  This is all very welcome, as we had a good chat about the direction of the blogs, and I feel we have reached a place that is good for the both of us.

Link-optimise.com, has had the home page rewritten and made more SEO friendly.  This is welcome news to me, as I have been itching to get my hands on it for some time.  Also, we may just have our first customer.  Fingers crossed.

Tonight I am going to be writing about stag nights and the ultimate Internet marketing strategy.  Groovy!

Taking time out for new ventures

The freelance writing road has been a very interesting one, and thrown up all sorts of situations that you can only learn through experience.  Negotiations, types of articles, payment, what work to go for and avoid, and the different types of clients have all benefited me as a freelance writer.  It is with this experience that I now have managed to plan the next two projects, www.link-optimise.com, and the new children's website.  These are what I shall be concentrating on for the next few weeks, and less of client writing work.

Saying that, I have just received an assignment for delegate2 for 25 articles, and possibly more work from dreamtemplate, so I shall definitely be very busy over the next few weeks.

A one of those freelance writing posts

Hey guys, and thanks for reading.  This is one of those posts that kicks off a night of freelance writing, one of those that gets you out of neutral and into first.  It is one of those that signals the end of procrastination.

There has been little developments in my freelance writing world, as Phil of Odakudesigns and Link-optimise fame, has managed to break his computer, and is waiting for parts to turn up to fix it.  Very frustrating, but at least he did not cut his hair, every time he does that something drastic happens.  The first time he did his Internet connection went down for seven weeks due to an admin error with is ISP.  This delayed this blog taking to the net for two months!  The next time he did this, link-optimise domain name could not be purchased again due to an admin error with the domain name provider.  If he does it again I'm gonna leave the country for a bit, just to be safe.

Tonight will involve writing for Digitpedia, and writing for Precise English.  Hopefully, a bit of my own stuff too.  Take it easy

A quick update from me.

Hi folks!  Well I am about to complete another job and look for hopefully another set with www.dreamtemplate.com.  I am not sure whether John will give me some more work, as he has so far not been in touch.  But we shall see.

Link-optimise is fixed, and that is great stuff as I can push it on Twitter again.  Seeing as the pages that needed fixing, The Great SEO Experiment, are our biggest traffic puller, it can't come soon enough.

This is going to be a short one tonight as I have things to do.

Have a good night folks.

Fate and freelance writing…

Well things have become a little easier of late, as Precise-English, have lessened the articles they need on a weekly basis to 18, from 24. At one point I was writing 33 a week for them.  This is very good for me right now, as it leaves me time to concentrate on my two other big projects, one of which, link-optimise.com, is up and running, the other, a children's website, should hit the servers soon.

If you believe in fate, and I do to a degree, then the timing of Precise-English coincides with something new in relation to one of these projects, hopefully both.

Recently, my collaborators in our lottery syndicate took what we had wont to date, and spent it on scratch cards.  We had £93 worth to be precise, and over the course of a week we lost every penny.  In its own way this is positive, as we had the balls to have a go and, we did not spend money we had not already spent on the Euro-millions lottery.  Not one of my collaborators regrets what we did, and we will do the same in a few months time.  I just wonder if it is my fate never to be rich? hmm...

What do you feel fate has in store for you?

Freelance writing disappointments

This post my friends, is the fiftyith post, and with it comes a sense of achievement.  A few months ago I was writing the first post, and now I am here.  A lot has happened:  I have made new connections in the form of writers and clients, earned a little bit of money whereby I have written over two hundred articles, experienced poverty, launched a company, and soon will be launching another with my business partner Phil Wood of Odakudesign.co.uk.  This has been a good few months.

Sadly, the fiftieth post is also marred by disappointment with my first article rejection.  This was particularly profound, given the effort I put into it to source pictures and put the whole thing together.  I even got Phil involved to convert it to an HTML file.  The rejection came as a complete surprise given that it had been warmly received by the editor, Walter, in draft form.  The comments on submitting the article, were in contrast to the ones given on draft submission, and subsequently, the direction and thrust of the article will have to be completely changed.  I am not sure if I am going to get the time to do that, so the whole thing will probably be shelved.

The experience is one that I still think about, and I am trying to move on from it.  It is a sad way to mark the fiftieth post.
