Laptops come in handy for research and creative juices.

I often write using my laptop, as I often work in various locations and not just in one place.  I find it handy to be able to pick up my working life and slip it into a bag, and disappear for the day to a coffee shop or a friend’s house and work from there.  It not only provides a convenient way of working, but the change of scene often gets the creative juices flowing, and this can be all important when you have an assignment that requires a lot of research.  Generally, the coffee is better too, as the coffee I make is not the barista equivalent of Shakespeare!

Arguably, research is the most arduous factor of writing, and the most time consuming.  It is a little like decorating a house, where the key to a good job lies in the preparation.  This is a good comparison of conducting writing research, where the quality of the article is dependent on the quality of research.  For this reason, I often find myself in my local library, and often I take my laptop as it is an ideal tool to take notes.  This becomes invaluable for research that cannot be conducted on the net, as the notes are recorded straight to my laptop, and do not have to be transferred.  Thus, the chances of me loosing my notes are greatly reduced, and my handwriting is not an issue either!  Also, it gives me a good chance to cross reference the work I am doing with what I have already discovered online.

The beauty of the laptop, is that it is well supported by other products that make it an invaluable tool for a writer.  Laptop accessories that help you connect to the net, or to a docking station are truly marvellous inventions, and their value cannot be spoken about enough.

The only problem to be away of with a laptop, is that they can be damaged when they are being moved from one location to another.  I have found a laptop sleeve, is an ideal way to protect the laptop from damage.

If you are tired at looking at the same walls of your study or office, then maybe you should consider becoming a little more mobile, as a change of scene can help your writing and creative juices to flow.
